Corporate Care
I am very pleased to be able to provide a letter of acknowledgement for Millennium Machinery LTD, IDA Industrial Estate, Garrycastle, Athlone and its Managing Director Mr Eamon Leahy, in respect of their outstanding contribution to St Joseph’s Primary School Summerhill Athlone Co. Roscommon and in particular the Autism Class.
Our Autism Class was established in January 2003 with a Department of Education & Science grant of a mere €6,500. We set up the class in response to requests from parents in our locality that did not have a specialist unit in the West Midlands area to send their autistic children to.
With very limited funds and constant refusals of our requests for the provision of such necessary facilities as a playground and sensory garden, the class has struggled to cope since its inception…that is until Millennium Machinery Limited came on board.
Out of the blue Mr. Leahy, who had heard of our work through friends, came to me and offered the services of his company to assist us in any way he could.

I left it to Mr. Leahy to do what he felt he could for us.
Unfortunately I then suffered a heart attack in January 2008 and was indisposed until June 2008. Imagine my surprise when I arrived back to find that Mr.Leahy had raised over €11,000 through various events his company organised and in particular by a sponsored Triathlon that Mr Leahy personally undertook.
Not only that, but Mr Leahy had organised his company to transform a courtyard in our school into an all-weather roofed playground and sensory garden for our school.
I was flabbergasted on viewing the playground as, though his business influences, Mr Leahy had secured the necessary materials for the construction at costs far lower that what they should be. Ultimately we got a facility that would normally cost between €70,000 and €80,000 for less that €10,000
It doesn’t end there though.
Mr Leahy has used his business influence to secure corporate membership for the Autism Class in a local prestigious leisure centre. The therapies and facilities of this centre are identical to those that we would have provided for the children in our school if proper funding had been made available.
Finally, Mr Leahy and Millennium Machinery have indicated that they will undertake further fundraising and provision of their services to continue to improve our facilities in the school.
We are extraordinarily indebted to Millennium Machinery Ltd. And their Managing Director, Mr Eamon Leahy, for their fantastic display of corporate caring and involvement in their community. We consider ourselves to be very fortunate to be the beneficiaries of this wonderful and selfless act of generosity and altruism.
